Multi-agent systems: when dividing a task makes sense

Dividing work among agents can help when subtasks are distinct. It also adds coordination, cost and failure points. A communication protocol does not grant permissions or prove traceability and security by itself.

Planning a first application

  1. Define input and output contracts for each subtask.
  2. Assign minimum tools and permissions to each participant.
  3. Centralize task state and validate the integrated result.

What to check before deciding

Compare with a simpler workflow using the same tasks. Measure quality, latency, cost and coordination failures. Add agents only when improvement justifies complexity and each action can be attributed.
